Mexico City, May 13: A two-day International Media Congress organized by the International Union of Journalists has officially begun in Mexico, bringing together journalists, media experts, and press freedom advocates from around the world to discuss challenges facing global media.
The congress focuses on issues such as press freedom, journalist safety, artificial intelligence in media, misinformation, and the future of digital journalism. Delegates from several countries are participating in panel discussions, workshops, and policy meetings aimed at strengthening international cooperation among media organizations.
The General Secretary in his opening remarks said the event comes at a time when journalists worldwide are facing increasing threats, including censorship, violence, and restrictions on independent reporting. Recent global reports have highlighted growing concerns over declining press freedom and the safety of media workers.
Speaking at the opening session, representatives of the journalists’ union emphasized the importance of protecting freedom of expression and supporting ethical journalism in the digital age. Participants are also expected to discuss international laws related to media rights and the impact of emerging technologies on news reporting.
The congress will conclude tomorrow with a joint declaration outlining recommendations for improving media freedom, journalist protection, and responsible reporting worldwide.
